Students Go Forth to Serve: February Donation Drives

Preparing students for a lifelong commitment to learning 和 social responsibility is at the heart of the St. 卢克的 experience. The School’s motto, Enter to Learn, Go Forth to Serve, inspires students to strive not only for academic excellence but also to be responsible citizens. 

Throughout the month of February, St. 卢克的 supported local nonprofits by hosting various donation drives, which provided an opportunity for students to partner with local organizations to build a stronger community.

The Friends of Teddy Hockey Stick & Equipment Drive



On Wednesday, Feb. 1, 和 Thursday, Feb. 2, St. 卢克的 held a hockey equipment drive in honor of Teddy Balkind. Families from St. 卢克的 和 the greater New Canaan area were invited to donate new 和 used gear, including sticks, 溜冰鞋, 头盔, goalie equipment, 和 hockey bags, to 曲棍球的避风港, a nonprofit that helps to make the sport of hockey accessible for under-represented kids in the Greater New Haven area. Following the collection, members of St. 卢克的 hockey team 和 Coach Emily Walsh loaded up the SLS bus 和 headed to 曲棍球的避风港 to drop off the donations. Thanks to everyone’s generosity, equipment was piled up to the ceiling, 和 a second bus was almost called in!

Teddy Bear Toss



On Thursday, Feb. 9, the SLS 社区 Teddy Bear Toss — celebrating Teddy Balkind — was held during the SLS Hockey game at the SoNo Ice House. Fans were invited to toss a new teddy bear onto the ice. SLS Hockey players skated around the rink to collect the teddy bears, which were then donated to the local nonprofits Filling in the Blanks 和 Inspirica. Both nonprofits greatly appreciated the teddy bears, which will add a little cuddly comfort to the children they serve. 

SOUPer Bowl Food Collection
